"Torture and American Culture" Fordham University

In Octber I was invited by Margaret Steinfels and Fordham University to participate in a discussion on the subject of "Torture and American Culture."  This provocative session was focused on the role that popular American cultural media (movies, television, etc.) played in the outbreak of torture inflicted by the US Government on prisoners in the aftermath of 9/11.  The university has sent me a transcript of my parts of the event, and my friend Professor Kyran Mish at the University of Oklahoma processed the Fordham video so that it is available here.  pl

"Polymath Lecture" at the University of Oklahoma - W. Patrick Lang

This lecture was presented in the "Polymath Lecture" series at the University of Oklahoma on 17 November, 2008.

The title of the lecture was "A Concert of the Middle East."  The university asked that this talk be a general introduction to the Middle Eastern region, Islam, Arab Culture and possible diplomatic options.  It is a drink from a fire hose. This is a 220 MB MP4 file.  pl

I gave this public lecture on Islam at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas on 7 February, 2007.  St. Mary's University owns the copyright but have agreed that I can make it available on this site.  The file is 201 Megabytes in size.

This was the second of two lectures.  The first had been on such "profane" subjects as nationalism, politics, etc.  Unfortunately, the technical people there failed to "capture" it.  pl
