HARPER: MORE ON FUSION ENERGY SOURCE OF THE FUTURE

As I wrote last week about prospects for a commercial fusion power source of unlimited energy within the next decade, I continue this thread with the next article in the Asia Times series on the subject.  The article includes links to the three previous articles in the series.  While the author does delve into some of the technical details, he provides a clear picture of practical applications, from powering cities to enabling travel to Mars and other distant places.

While many are feeling the effects of weeks of social isolation and job insecurity, this is a clear reminder that human beings are capable of creative solutions to seemingly impossible challenges.

Lasers are a fascinating technology. I knew a Russian laser physicist who got a lot of notoriety from his breakthrough in creating a laser that could maintain power as it shot through water. Don't know how far that got or if it just became classified at some point.

Since all energy ends up as heat energy, by conservation of energy, then the ability to produce unlimited energy is the ability to put unlimited amounts of heat into the atmosphere. To keep the heat in the atmosphere constent it would be necessary to limit the amount of energy produced to the amount the earth looses through heat radiation.
