Bingo!

The Korean war was a tragic confluence of ineptitude and abdication on the part of the two superpowers in dealing with their little power princes, coupled with the rise of Cold War power politics as so eloquently described by Polk. The US sponsoring Rhee virtually assured the Soviet Union seeing propping up Kim as their only possible path.
