I am suffering from my usual mid-winter heavy cold. I went to my doctor today. I got through the holiday season before it really got bad. This is not pneumonia. I have had that several times brought on by exposure over the years. Bear with me for a while if I seem not on my game. pl
Hope you get your favorite cold fighting soup!

Colonel,
I wish you a quick, complete, recovery. Here is a get-well poem from Ogden Nash:
Common Cold - Poem by Ogden Nash
Go hang yourself, you old M.D.!
You shall not sneer at me.
Pick up your hat and stethoscope,
Go wash your mouth with laundry soap;
I contemplate a joy exquisite
I'm not paying you for your visit.
I did not call you to be told
My malady is a common cold.
By pounding brow and swollen lip;
By fever's hot and scaly grip;
By those two red redundant eyes
That weep like woeful April skies;
By racking snuffle, snort, and sniff;
By handkerchief after handkerchief;
This cold you wave away as naught
Is the damnedest cold man ever caught!
Give ear, you scientific fossil!
Here is the genuine Cold Colossal;
The Cold of which researchers dream,
The Perfect Cold, the Cold Supreme.
This honored system humbly holds
The Super-cold to end all colds;
The Cold Crusading for Democracy;
The Führer of the Streptococcracy.
Bacilli swarm within my portals
Such as were ne'er conceived by mortals,
But bred by scientists wise and hoary
In some Olympic laboratory;
Bacteria as large as mice,
With feet of fire and heads of ice
Who never interrupt for slumber
Their stamping elephantine rumba.
A common cold, gadzooks, forsooth!
Ah, yes. And Lincoln was jostled by Booth;
Don Juan was a budding gallant,
And Shakespeare's plays show signs of talent;
The Arctic winter is fairly coolish,
And your diagnosis is fairly foolish.
Oh what a derision history holds
For the man who belittled the Cold of Colds!

Sir
I find hot toddy works wonders for my throat. Whisky, lemon, honey, a bit of cayenne and piping hot water. Sipped by a warm fire.
Please get well soon! We're in momentous times and your astute observations and analysis is much needed You've lived in the thicket.
Cheers!

How about Armagnac? I may open my bottle in sympathy.

Water, water, and more water. Feel better, Colonel!

Col. Lang,
Get well soon. I began drinking a shot of Braggs vinegar mixed with garlic, hot pepper, onion, oregano oil, tumeric,and ginger three years ago and haven't been sick since. Also a difusser filled with eucalyptus and tea oil may help your sinuses and lungs.
I just nursed my stubborn sister back from a two day 102.4 fever to reg temp and feeling almost normal in 4 days with the above, plus broth.
This season is nasty to people.

Colonel, though you probably already know, better to err on the side of caution where health is concerned, so I'll tell you anyway: there is a vaccine for pneumonia.
Though come to think of it, if you were going to err on the side of caution where your health was concerned, you would not have had a career in the military.
Get well soon, please.

I too have a weakness for Armagnac. My favorite are the Darroze bottlings.

I would suggest a bit of Vitamin D, it's immunity enhancing properties are very understated.
It also seem especially relevant for trouble occurring in winter.
