Hmmm. As I read Richard's selection by Ortega, I thought of Don Quixote. Specifically I thought of Richard Kiley as Cervantes in the musical "Man of LaMancha." My parents had the record and I played "The Impossible Dream" until the track wore out. I think it fits Ortega's idea of the select man.
I agree with your sentiments. I'm reading "The Revolt of the Masses" right now. It is chilling in its prescience for describing our current state of affairs.
I have not read this work by Ortega but his "Meditations on Quixote" (in translation). A thought provoking choice as are the portions you posted.
