I don't think these people really believe that this lot can lead to a "united, secularist Syria". What they want is a Syria in chaos so that this perpetuates unending strife in the region. Because that is what suits Israel.

Ryan,

Let's not forget the Tribe status of Celler, who had been pushing for that immigration change for decades.

More "for thee, not for me" Talmudic hypocrisy.

Or know which side their bread is buttered.

As for the reality of Saudi Arabia today, a close observer of the region (Alastair Crooke) had this to say recently:

"The Kingdom is becoming heavily extended financially in the face of the drop in crude prices. Linked to this, Saudi is over-extended politically: engaged in wars in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Libya; and in ensuring the survival of President Sisi’s government. On top of this, the kingdom is being led by a young man, the King’s son, who has crossed every al-Saud family ‘red-line’: by not accommodating other family branches in a ‘balance’ of power; by persuading his father unilaterally to tear-up the succession arrangements; by refusing access to his father, by taking ARAMCO under his control; and above all, by launching and conducting the war in Yemen, without seeking, or obtaining, the family’s support. Reports are openly circulating within the al-Saud family (which are now public), calling for the King, Prince Mohammad and Prince Naif – the two crown princes – to be deposed".

Babak,

I also would recommend this video. These are today’s Best and Brightest.

Marie Slaughter is correct. The Syrian Civil War is going to metastasize to Jordan and Turkey. A victory parade in Mecca is the Islamic State’s goal. But, recommending enforcing a no fly zone over Russian patrolled Syria blithely ignores that it will ignite World War III. The Russian intervention will draw minority Christian, Shiite and Alawite support that will create a rump Syria. But, a regional holy war has been ignited with the Sunnis.

The USA finds itself allied the Sunni nations; Turkey and the Gulf Monarchies who are supporting the Syrian insurrection and acting contrary to America’s best interests. However, after a quarter century war with the Sunnis in Iraq and now Syria, America has no Sunni allies on the ground but dares not to admit it.

The only chance to avoid WW III is to deal with reality and start doing what is best for the survival of America.

Strange, Crocker seemed like he was having difficulty expressing himself as well. Something was not right with him.

Even the far-left liberal Bernie Sanders supports arming "Syrian" rebels in overthrowing Assad. http://www.hngn.com/articles/136477/20151004/bernie-sanders-supports-u-s-arming-rebels-overthrow-syrian-president.htm

So, my count has it at two as the total number of sane candidates for Presidents, Trump and Paul.

One picture vs. 1000 words:

In 2014, more than 22,000 patients received care at the hospital and more than 5,900 surgeries were performed. Surely the majority of the patients would not have been Talibs.
Most of the population was Tajik and part of the Northern Alliance. Even if some Taliban fighters were currently being treated there, this speaks to the humanity of the MSF staff - most of whom are recruited locally anyway - where in a majority Tajik area, someone with a different ethno-religious and political loyalty was been cared for. Known the mindset of the area, this is by itself a miracle.
To to paraphrase Guilhem Molinie, MSF's country representative in Afghanistan, two days prior the attack on on 29th of Septembe "We are in contact with all parties to the conflict and have received assurances that our medical personnel, patients, hospital and ambulances will be respected," said Molinie. "With the government provincial hospital not currently functioning, MSF's hospital is now the only place in Kunduz where people in need of urgent trauma care can receive it."
http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/article/afghanistan-msf-hospital-overwhelmed-wounded-after-heavy-fighting-kunduz
On top of this, this was the ONLY hospital people had in that region. Even if some wounded Talibs, who were recently brought due to heavy flare up of fighting in Kunduz, they would still fall under the Geneva Convention.
http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/article/afghanistan-our-hospital-was-frontline

To paraphrase again: “MSF wishes to clarify that all parties to the conflict, including in Kabul and Washington, were clearly informed of the precise location (GPS Coordinates) of the MSF facilities in Kunduz, including the hospital, guesthouse, office and an outreach stabilization unit in Chardara northwest of Kunduz.
As it does in all conflict contexts, MSF communicated the precise locations of its facilities to all parties on multiple occasions over the past months, including most recently on September 29.”

I have no idea about the reaction time between identifying a target as legitimate, what probably happened here intentionally or erroneously, and the actual bomb run but this brings Apache Murder Incident on 12th of July 2007 to mind.
The video, released by Julian Assange’s Wikileaks, showed the killing of 22 yo Reuters photographer, Namir Noor-Eldeen, & the 40 yo driver, Saeed Chmagh, 40. It was eye opening that the Apache restarted shooting when a care came by to pick up the wounded.
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/apr/05/wikileaks-us-army-iraq-attack

To come back to the current massacre and paraphrase again, “the bombing in Kunduz continued for more than 30 minutes after American and Afghan military officials in Kabul and Washington were first informed by MSF that its hospital was struck.

"Not a single member of our staff reported any fighting inside the MSF hospital compound prior to the U.S. airstrike on Saturday morning. The hospital was full of MSF staff, patients and their caretakers. It is 12 MSF staff members and 10 patients, including three children, who were killed in the attack. We reiterate that the main hospital building, where medical personnel were caring for patients, was repeatedly and very precisely hit during each aerial raid, while the rest of the compound was left mostly untouched.”
http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/article/statement-kunduz-hospital-bombing

These attacks of targets with intervals, calculated to target the rescuers, as done with Predator originating “double taps”, seems to be a policy goal of our Noble Peace Prize Winning Pres. Hopey-Changey Obama.
The attackers just dehumanize themselves. These wounded Taleb fighters, who has been wounded by modern weapons of war, would probably never have returned to the battlefield anyway. Another sorry story in line with Haditha, Abu Gharib, Falluja and ...
Just venting my frustration and known that some might be insulted. This is not my intention as I have come to understand that on this forum the goal is to let that place sort out it’s own problems while we do the same but I really can not help but saying “ What would the excuse be now?”

Babak,

How embarrassing. The opening 30 seconds points out the US bombed Doctors Without Borders while Putin only bombed jihadis.

Meanwhile "we have to act in a way that gets a political solution". And the name of the secular political Syrian leader popular with the Syrian people is??? Ann Marie? What, you can't name one? How about you Meghan, what's that man's name again, you now the Syrian secular leader you've been talking about for four years? All that PHD firepower and we are back to the same old BS.

Fred

On a completely different bombs and bullets note I spent the day at the CPL license class with a couple hours on the range. Nice mix of students from 22 to 62. Closet to 1/3 female with almost as many being combat veterans. All in all a very good day. It sure beat watching the morning yak fest.

Could have, but picked a Kefraya today ... With chencklich and a few olives. less is more !

Misanthrope

Because they know that very well. They're quite happy for ISIS / Al Qaeda or whichever bunch of headchopping nutcases to take over Syria. There really isn't any other explanation. They've pretty much admitted it now.

When they've taken control of Syria they are meant to move on to destabilising Central Asia and muslim majority areas of Russia. The Russians know this, which is why they are taking action. This also means that, to all intents and purposes, the US has already declared war on Russia.

Bahrain caught Iran smuggling in 1.5 tons of explosives and weapons and then the diplomatic expulsions happened. It looks like Iran was planning to support an uprising or terrorist attack. http://www.timesofisrael.com/bahrain-expels-iranian-envoy-over-alleged-arms-smuggling/

Trump tells Chuck Todd that Iraq and Libya would be better off under Saddam and Ghadafi. Heresy is being uttered on the "serious" beltway news shows.

rjj

sane positions on Syria would earn candidates a bad press and cost them campaign contributions.

rjj

where is his money coming from?

The north-south "pincer" was the obvious plan and it had been talked about before.

But it started to fail early September when the southern campaign could not make any gains on Deraa. There was reportedly some disunity between the Ops room in Jordon and the people in the field on how to attack.

Since then the southern front has been pulled back to Jordon and, if my hunch is right, Jordan has pulled out the regime change alliance after the King visited Moscow.

Note that Friday's protest note against Russia bombing AlQaeda and not only ISIS was signed by France, Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2015/10/247802.htm

Where is Jordan?
(And why the fuck would Merkel sign such nonsense)

Will

And Chuck Todd was visibly upset and kept interrupting.

Col. Lang. SST;

Two incidents of Turkish F16 vs. Russian jets reported. The first is a 5 mile violation of the Turkish border by Russian jet during the bombing of an ISIS position. In the second incident a Turkish F16 on border patrol was targeted by a (Russian or Syrian) MiG 29 from the Syrian side of the border; the radar lock -on was for 5+ minutes.

They did not drop Pat Buchanan to simply give 'more time to Boloton'. They dropped him because the PC crowd put pressure on him by calling him a "racist". Which most emphatically he is not, I would argue. Ok, that charge, in and of itself would not be enough to normally move Fox. But then there is Pat's sound, and known position on Israel. THAT, along with the racist allegation meant he had to taken off TV. He was too effective.

Cee

All,

Turkey accused Russia of flying into their airspace.

Cee

Logan,

This makes me angry. Still, no way I'd vote for The Donald.

Cee

The Oded Yinon plan lives on.

Cee

Amir,
I don't care who is insulted!
I thought of Israel. They bomb hospitals, churches, mosques and do it INTENTIONALLY!!
The bombing of this hospital continued after calls to stop it! This is a crime!

Valissa

Cee, here is b's post on that...
