As I read years ago in a study of the Rothschild family (although it has somewhat wider application), prejudice is a fine substitute for self-esteem if you can't manage the real thing.
Sorry. I agree with your point that the ethno-religious origins of someone like Sanders is the least of things that should be considered when weighing the merits of the man. His action in refusing to attend Natanyahu's speech to Congress says a lot for me. pl
Khazers (Ashkanezi) who converted and are in control are not. It pissed me off that many make claims to history, language and now land that they are not entitled to. I do recall some years ago that some in Israel wanted to ban the DNA testing because the results were not to their liking. Israeli Arabs ARE Semites. Some say they were Jews before converting to Islam.
I still remember you saying that even though you have zero perceptible black genetic input and that your genetic input is basically white, to where white-identified people take you to be white, that you still claim yourself to be black. Given that you admit to having basically zero black genetic background, how is it that you can still be self-identified as black? How does that work, exactly? I am still confused and would be grateful if you could help me think my way through how you can be self-admittedly genetically one thing and yet call yourself another thing and expect to be taken at your word.
Yes, I think it would surprise many Americans who support Israel how racist many Israeli's are. They could be called anti-gentile. The article and comments show that Bernie cannot be classified a radical Zionist that believes in Biblical prophecy,or is not accepted as such by true believers.
No, no. I squeaked by. I have maternal West African and North African lineage aka Black. I also have a Jewish great grandfather who was from Spain and some Irish.
I was quite surprised to learn that my paternal grandmothers lineage was North African Jew (her father was Irish) after doing DNA testing. I also learned that my fathers ancestors were from Kazakhstan and that explains why people thought we had Chinese in the family because of the appearance of some.
I have living exact match relatives in Israel, Tunisia, Yemen and Libya although thanks to the neocons in the that last two places they may be dead.
No matter, in the US if you have a drop you ARE Black. I own it.
Anyway, a line from one of my favorite movies called Puddin' Head Wilson regarding a slave who could pass was that she was White in the Face but Black in the Blood"
Two other favorites are Pinky and Imitation of Life. My mother always told us to never try to pass. I never have.
Let me add that someone sent me something about President Obama saying he was the closet thing to a Jew that has ever been in the WH. He may be right. His dad could have been a Lemba from Kenya.
Since the primary election ballots are secret ( at least in theory), Jewish voters may be confident of being able to vote without their name being linked ( and outed) to their vote. If that is so, then every primary election with Sanders in it would give Jewish voters with some level of doubt about current levels of support to the Righty Wingist governators of Israel today the opportunity to vote their doubts. Granular study of returns to each primary candidate compared with percents or levels of Jewish voters in whatever geographic levels of analysis the political analysts choose to zero in on should be interesting for whatEVer they reveal.
My feeling is there is still a majority of American Jewish humanists around to vote for Bernie. The media concentrates on the voices Jewish billionaires and Israel-centric groups and ignores the commoners, as it does of all average Americans.
Bernie lost family in the Holocaust. He believes in Israel as a refuge for Jews who seek it, has a right to defend itself but not act aggressively towards its neighbors. From what I can tell, He puts Americas interests first and the middle-class at the forefront. The power of civilization is in its mass, without a body its ideals lack creation.
From his newsletter, Bernies Buzz:
"Bernie has introduced legislation that would make the wealthiest Americans pay the same share of their income into Social Security as other wage earners. That change would fully fund the retirement program through 2065. Under the measure, the average benefit would increase by $65 a month, cost-of-living adjustments would more accurately measure inflation for seniors and the minimum benefit would be raised to lift millions of seniors out of poverty.
“Social Security is the most successful program in our nation's history. At a time of massive wealth and income inequality, we have got to demand that the richest people in this country pay their fair share,” Bernie added.
Every year, the federal government spends $68 billion on retirement savings incentives that almost all end up in the pockets of the wealthiest Americans."
I might be repeating this once too often, but the idea of "one drop rule" is itself fairly new: a product of late 19th/early 20th century "scientific racism" that was actually quite soundly rejected for several decades in most of the South in the immediate post-bellum era because "it would turn many of our (their) families into n*****s." Race, even black and white, was flexible until last 100 years or so.
I suppose I find this fascinating because, somewhat ironically, I bristle at people identifying me as "Asian" and start with presumptions about Asians--whether they are "right" or not. I never liked being defined by others' stereotypes, and being put into a race box is, to me, the most heinous of them.
Thank you for your detailed reply. It deserves a better response than the time I have to give to that right now. When I can devote an adequate time-block for thinking and replying, then I will do so.
For now, all I can say is . . . I am very impressed with what they can find out with these modern DNA tests. It almost makes me want to get one if I could bring myself to stand the pain of having to pay for it. One wonders what-all would be found.
I spoke with a Dr. Shriver at the University of PA after his DNA test results showed that he is of Black ancestry. He was shocked that his test results showed that he had the Duffy gene. He then went to family members who let him know about an ancestor.
The tests don't cost as much as they used to. The problem that I had which made me resort to the DNA route and still have is contacting people who don't want to acknowledge that we are related. LOL!

Col: Me too. I don't mind Sanders's being "pro-Israel." It's when politicians act like Israel's employees, then I get the creeps.

Bernie could be from Mars and I wouldn't care. I just don't classify him as a Semite. Self identified Jew, yes.
The Lemba and these people who are treated badly ARE Semites.

Bernie Sanders is too secular for the Orthodox and conservative Jews. The Jewish Press hopes he loses the election.
