Can you just see all us old farts lining up every morning for our daily shot of virgin mouse blood?

Vampirism works! I'm glad I am too old to be considered a resource.

How many out there remember Heinlein's "Methusela's Children"? The story line was the Howard Families, especially Woodrow Wilson Smith (AKA "Lazarus Long," a recurring character in more than a few tales). By "breeding for longevity" these folks had robust life spans of a century or two. Facing persecution from "ephemerals" who wanted their secret, they (Smith) stole a starship & left Earth for several centuries.

Returning with valuable alien technologies, they were surprised to learn that most earthlings were now "long lifers." After the Families escaped, Earthbound governments were under pressure to find "the secret," and they stumbled on the idea of blood replacement, as well as a technique to grow the stuff in the lab.
This from the same dude who wrote "Solution Unsatisfactory," about the inutility of nuclear power, back in the mid-30's.

Rather than go along with the vampire jokes, I would observe that with regard to possible therapies what we are talking about are manufactured proteins found in plasma not whole blood.

BTW, the statue is my favorite in DC. pl

GDF11 downregulates nerve regeneration. So there may be some side effects. And stem cells can be complicated- stem cells from women sometimes work when male stem cells don't.

in the meantime to live longer, avoid grains, starchy carbs, seed oils. Eat seafood and pasture fed beef. Get grounded to the earth by walking barefoot. Cut off the artificial lights at night. Never hold a cellphone to your head- use speakerphone. Take cold showers or at least a cold rinse. And most importantly sleep in a dark, cold, and quiet place w/o distractions.

similar to a scifi short story i read. now i see where they got the idea. in the story, a lab develops a serum chock full of nano repair mechanisms. the head of the company says that is no business model b/c it needs to have an expiration date so we can keep on selling it. Anyway a vampire like very very pale lady drains his blood, he was one of the first to get the treatment, then starts distributing it among the populace.

Well, considering the alternative...

I do not think I could stand a couple of centuries, let alone more of the eternal bullshit that we pile up daily. Of course, if you tossed in my young body, I'd give old fooldom a serious go til something else wore out.

Look at the flip side - who'd benefit first will be rich egomaniacs.

Just think of, McCain, coming from a long lived family anyway, living long enough to get his thermonuclear war with Russia already. Or take John Kerry.

WILL, Col. Lang,

I haven't reached your esteemed Age yet...

Is having young pu$$¥ gonna be of any help [to longevity]...?

'Coz I see many an ol' dog in south-east asia...

Rumor has it... a certain politician in asia gets the plasma of young soldiers transfused into his bloodstream...

With this article, I guess it's all hogwash after all...

According to physicists Frank J Tipler, we all of us, every single one, will live forever.

"The Omega Point cosmology[edit]
The Omega Point is a term Tipler uses to describe a cosmological state in the distant proper-time future of the universe that he maintains is required by the known physical laws. According to this cosmology, it is required for the known laws of physics to be mutually consistent that intelligent life take over all matter in the universe and eventually force its collapse. During that collapse, the computational capacity of the universe diverges to infinity and environments emulated with that computational capacity last for an infinite duration as the universe attains a solitary-point cosmological singularity. This singularity is Tipler's Omega Point.[6] With computational resources diverging to infinity, Tipler states that a society far in the future would be able to resurrect the dead by emulating all alternative universes of our universe from its start at the Big Bang.[7] Tipler identifies the Omega Point with God, since, in his view, the Omega Point has all the properties claimed for gods by most of the traditional religions."

that's why so many children are disapearing

Well, at the risk of excessive self-disclosure, I am 49, and my wife of 20 yrs is enough older than me that we beat the spread in life expectancies between men and women. That doesn't bother me.

Her family has a strong history of dementia. That terrifies me. I have every reason in several worlds to want this to be a miracle. But I do loathe these ultra-preliminary announcements, which if not much ado about nothing, are about 20 years premature as news.

The punchline of the article was something like, 'let's not oversell this'. Yes. Let's not. Vampire jokes are more time-appropriate in this process than specific expectations, imho.

This is the Sheridan statue outside the NYS capitol. The guy gets around.
