Maybe the State Dept. will issue a similar report on Benghazi - where their own Ambassador got killed.
Wait.....I just saw a flying donkey.
Nah.
It was a State Dept. official avoiding any responsibility for anything anywhere.

Good question.
Why DID they issue this report and hide under their desks re.Benghazi?

This a standard function of Diplomatic Security. Did they fail in Benghazi? Absolutely. pl

Have I told you lately how much contempt I hold for people who make reports in PowerPoint? It is a child's toy.

Release of Sheikh Omar Abdurrahman AKA the Blind Sheikh was a main objective in the assault on the gas facility. This is the thug who ran the first bombing of the Twin Towers. Sheikh Omar Abdurranhaman is currently a guest of the U. S. Federal Prison System, and the Egyptian Ambassador visited the Sheikh a few weeks ago.
Also, from open sources, one of the demands of the attackers of the Benghazi Consulate attacks was the release of Sheikh Omar Abdurrahman.
Unconfirmed, Morsi will step down and allow Sheikh Omar Abdurrahman to assume the Pharaohs position, if and when he is released from U.S. custody.

I did not read this in the report linked to above. Where did you get either bits of info/rumor?
Posted by: Fred | 26 January 2013 at 07:01 PM
Fred, download the above pdf . On page 16 the second to last paragraph is the demand for the release of Sheikh Omar Abdurrahman. Getting the Sheikh released is a constant theme in many of the attacks carried out for over a decade now.

I re-read this, while it calls for the release of Sheikh Omar Abdurrahmanit doesn't say anything about having him replace Mursi.

So, do people think we can mess around over there and suffer no causalities? A few Americans are killed and we treat it like a D-Day failure or something. Sure, the govt is incompetent, and liars....but that's true in most things, and has been for a while now. A few random deaths is not a great evidence of some epic failure.

I was watching Gen McChrystal on C-SPAN earlier when he was pitching his book and taking questions while at the Brookings Institute . One questioner asked Gen McChrystal if the Algerian security response was appropriate and necessary . Gen McChrystal said he would not comment on appropriateness of the 'no prisoners ' approach adopted by the Algerians - but that he did understand why the Algerian security forces did what they did - Apparently given the long & brutal history of the Islamist insurrection in Algeria their the security and national government has had to adopts a zero tolerance for any acts of terror in their border. The thinking is that the casulities you sustain today prevent greater losses tomorrow. Do you think thats why French President Hollande praised the Algerian response and other western allies condemned it - ie Japan ? Do you have an opinion about the Algerian response to the hostage takers at the natural gas facility ?

Dedicated Islamists cannot be "reformed." pl

It would appear Algeria is not a profitable place to be a dedicated Islamist.

"Col Lang It would appear Algeria is not a profitable place to be a dedicated Islamist." Yes. The Algerians have learned the hard way how to deal with them. pl
