A nice early Christmas present, thanks Maureen. Bret Harte's story tells of an unexpected act of kindness to a very young child. That was something I found comforting to read on this particular morning.

I have never read anything by Bret Harte beyond The Outcasts of Poker Flat so this was a revelation. Thanks and Merry Xmas to you and your family.

I'm envious of Harte's muttonchops. Been trying to grow mine out to such a luxurious bushy state but no joy yet. Merry Christmas, Maureen.
