"The message is: Dear American Jews, thank you for lobbying for American defense aid (and what a great show you put on at the AIPAC convention every year!) but, please, stay away from our sons and daughters."
If this isn't evidence that Netanyahu has lost it, I don't know what would.
Times are tough in the Aliyah Industry, I'd say. But how can they possibly be safe in a country that recently suffered a major anti-semitic outbreak: a billboard ad for Polish vodka that declared 'Christmas quality at Hanukkah pricing.'
American Jews have never done much to help Israelis, so I don't think Israel owes them anything. Most American Jews vote for anti-Israel politicians like Obama.
Adam, good find. I see the ad campaign as a desperate response to the inevitability of demographics. Is there a reliable breakdown of the ethnic/national background of the Jewish population of Israel? Although I have no data to back this up, It seems like the Russian mafiya is a growing part of the Israeli population.
TTG: I'll see if I can pull the demographic data for you tomorrow. What I think you're observing is the influence that some of the post-Soviet Russian émigrés, like Scharansky and Lieberman, are having.
elhrac: while it is true that the vast majority of Jewish Americans tend to support Democrats for public office, casting President Obama as anti-Israel is a stretch. With only a couple of very mild tweaks, the current Administration's positions on Israel are in line with almost all of the previous ones.
You are right! Harry Truman was a goy and us gentiles are the people who voted to give all that money to Israel. Obama? No doubt about it! So far he just has not obeyed Bibi at all, hardly. pl

When will the Professional Jewish in American life match the Professional Irish in their musical efforts? I forget is it the Irish or the Welsh that once claimed to be the lost Tribe of Israel?
"Professional Irish" are those with dual citizenship exploiting the cultures of both Ireland and USA.
I dunno. I could give up Irish booze before I could give up a good kosher deli.
Meanwhile let me add my voice to the others who are unsettled by the notion of Jeffrey Goldberg saying something so sensible. Maybe he's picking up an inkling of exactly what he's been shilling for all these years. Or maybe he just got his feelings hurt.
My question is, when will Israel's death-grip on our nation's Mideast foreign policy be removed so we can function as a nation in our own interests once again?
Thanks, Adam. As I thought, Israelis of former USSR descent are a massive part of the population. A common characteristic of my aquaintances from the former USSR is a deep distrust of and antipathy towards any government, whether they were involved in the mafiya or not. I'm sure this has some kind of effect on Israel.
Sir,
As much as I hate to credit him, Jeffrey Goldberg of the Atlantic (and erstwhile IDF detainee ops corporal) has one of the greatest one liners about these adds. Its the last line of his article on it, found here:

Jeffrey Goldberg's reaction is priceless:
"The message is: Dear American Jews, thank you for lobbying for American defense aid (and what a great show you put on at the AIPAC convention every year!) but, please, stay away from our sons and daughters."

elhrac,
do American Jews owe Israel anything then?

Israel, please keep it up.
Your peril is Palestine's opportunity.

At least the Irish gave us Guinness and Jameson.

TTG: sorry for the delay. This has the best breakdown I could find. The data seems to have topped out in 2005 or so:
