Someone has described John Kasich as "thuglike." Nah! He is too much of a phony gutter rat to deserve that. I have met a lot of "small bore" egomaniacal politicians. Kasich is right at the top of my list.
Years ago, a friend was so good as to suggest me for a speaking engagement in which I shared the platform with Kasich. His speaking performance was that of the typical chicken hawk with no military service beating the war drum for young people in desert camouflage to kill and maim in pursuit of what proved to be a false cause. He cared not and was unconcerned about the possibility. His slick demagoguery was calculated to inflame a rural, ill informed audience rather than to educate.
He should go back to ward healing in Clevelend or wherever it was. pl
You nailed it PL! But HITLER was also underestimated at first.
This guy could end up in a Republican Administration as appointee or on the ticket.
He will not be deterred by his setback at the polls. IMO of course.

He is from the Columbus area. I remember when he slimed his way to his first election as a Congressman in the district where I lived back then. I've never voted for him because (beside the fact that I'm a Democrat) he always came across as a smartass whizkid operative, rather than a true leader.

Ok guys it's fairly obvious you don't like the guy personally. That's fine, but ad homien attacks don't prove anything one way or the other about his policies.
He did manage to get the 11 plus million citizens of Ohio to elect him as their governor, a state that leans toward the Democratic side, so he obviously has not inconsequential political skills. My guess is,you will have to bear up to his prescence on the political scene for a while longer. Probably in the next GOP national administration.

i glory in this ad hominem attack. It IS significant because the little p---k has national ambitions. pl

It's not an "Ad Hominem" attack to call a piece of shit by its true name.
The mark of a Gentleman is not that he does not give offense, it's that he doesn't give offense unintentionally.
Paul Keating, a great Australian Prime Minister, made the point that you stature as a man is determined by the number and quality of your enemies.
I'm quite pleased with my own collection, as I suspect Col. Lang is with his.

highlander, 1,889,180 citizens of Ohio elected Kasich by a 2% margin as Governor.
The way things are going in this country I fully expect backlash elections to continue. Neither of these parties can govern effectively anymore.
McDonnell of Virginia seems to have more of an upside nationally as he hasn't shot himself in the foot in his home state yet.

I like the photo and caption. Good job not pulling any punches.

What I find so revolting about that breed of politico is that they are so fully bought (by sponsors like the Kochs or bodies like ALEC) or ideological that they have become, if they ever were, unable to distinguish between the public and corporate interests, or are so corrupt that they don't care anyway. In their minds it is all the same.
No, it isn't, it never was and it never will be.
When I look at how Scott Walker of Wisconsin deliberately generated a budget crisis by cutting taxes, to justify various cuts, the crackdown on unions, preparing the sell-off of state property (power plants, maybe to, coal industries), of the phenomenon embraced by some Republican governors of these eminently undemocratic appointed 'führers' (because democratically elected city officials just don't work), so-called 'fiscal emergency managers' - I just want to throw up.
That alone is reason enough to rejoice at Ohio voters defeating a goon like Kasich. It's a sign of sanity in crazy times. Ohio voters, bless them.

I think that should be "elected" as there were several credible accounts of "odd electoral behavior". Not that those behaviors were anything new in that part of this republic.
