According to the pietist wing of the Republican Party most evil resides in Washington., D.C. I envision this perceived phenomenon as something like the New York City in "Ghostbusters" but with demons inhabiting the corridors of the Department of State and Congress (with certain saintly exceptions). Across the river stands "Gondor" (DoD) stoutly defending righteousness and civic virtue. The walls of the "White City" are built of concrete in a strange and mystic five sided shape. I see, a pentagram of course! Will the "watch on the Potomac" fail on the 14th Street Bridge? Who can say?
Yesterday, was it only yesterday? The walls of Mordor shook and the wicked fled into the streets of Gomorrah (Foggy Bottom). Sauron had already fled unto a strange foreign islet where his masters and familiars gather to feast and celebrate in coven.
Fair Virginia was targeted by subterranean forces for destruction, but the walls held with but a few edifices of the faithful damaged in the struggle and two Rosenthal vases destroyed in our bunker here in Rosemont.
We will go on! Inspired by "our" leaders, the sainted ones, we will never compromise. Never! pl
I happened to stroll by the Glenn Beck orchestrated Stand with Israel rally that was held in downtown Manchester NH as well as places all over the US and in Israel.
I watched and listened to a few minutes of the apocalyptic propagandizing from the gloom and doom anti-Sharia fanatics.
These people must sleep under their beds, everything is horrifying and a sign of the end times.
I strolled away and has some falafel and coffee and was grateful that I don't spend my days filling adult diapers over troubles that will likely never materialize.

Col. Lang, is hurricane Irene an issue where you are?
Posted by: walrus | 25 August 2011 at 02:43 PM
Cantor is now saying no disaster relief unless it is off set by cuts. It's really too bad he wasn't swallowed by the quake. Any hope the hurricane will get him?

DC area worst from Irene around dawn Sunday! My guesstimate!

Jackie,
I wonder what cuts he's proposing in order to free up federal funds, temporary food stamps? temporary unemployment benefits?
Many of those programs are at the heart of immediate federal disaster funding.

Jackie, steve,
If Cantor want 'cuts' to 'offset' disaster relief aid, then let's 'cut' Cantor's (and Hoyer's) Congressional paychecks/Congressional benefits, AND the $3.075 Billion that Cantor & Hoyer have 'promised' the rich little Israel. That'll get that little whipsnort's attention, real quick -- mention 'cutting' Israeli aid and watch Cantor & Hoyer's heads spin. I'd love to see the both of them get whiplash from it.

Lots of people quoting Eric Cantor here: "We'll Pay for Post-Quake Relief--If We Can Find the Cuts."
No problem, cut foreign aid. We can always start with Afghanistan, or Iraq. How about asking our 'best ally in the Middle East' for our $3 Billion a year back?

Jackie, steve, Colonel,
In any other venue beside Congress, 'influence peddling' is a criminal offense, but Congress personas like Cantor and Hoyer can get away with it through their little legal loophole called 'campaign contributions' that Foreign Governments like Israel provide through their money funnels like a-IPAC. I say it's time that that little legal 'loophole' was closed shut, permanently, and Cantor & Hoyer's Foreign Government 'extra income' was put to a 'dead stop'.

J and Steve,
I find Cantor and his "if we can find the money" routine reprehensible. What a little creep. I hope his district gets tired of him soon and retires him from public office.

Just as she was Cantor's 'darling Freshman' with his Israeli Congressional Junket Trip, not to be outdone by her latest 'gushing' all-over-herself-praises for a police-state postage stamp article she wrote in the NRO [ http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/275594/august-israel-nan-hayworth ], seems that this same Freshman Representative GOP Tea Party er of the Congress wants to withhold Irene disaster relief funds from her own district that was hit. Rep. Nan Hayworth R19 NY looks like she is severally lack in two departments, heart and brains.

J
She's one of the 'got mine' crowd. If the people in NY think government should only 'defend' you or imprison you then they'll re-elect her.

Just for the record. No agreement on or by Virginia political elite on Congressional districting for next falls 2012 elections.
And the North Anna reactors have been off status since the earthquake with no known restart in sight.
Credible scientists have started to recommend large areas of permanent evacuation in Japan due to increased radiation readings.

WRC,
Speaking of Japanese nuclear reactor radiation Caesium-137 and its contamination. It's spread to our U.S. thanks to the jet streams.

WRC,
There was no tsunami on the North Anna River nor any disturbance of Lake Anna, the man made cooling reservoir for the power pants. In addition these are Westinghouse PWRs not GE boiling water reactors.
J, Obama's response to aid Japan, as well as the US nuclear industry's, was disgraceful.
