Adam L. Silverman*
For those interested, here is the running updates on the bombing and shootings in Norway today from the Guardian.
One of the last entries before sign off is that, despite initial claims and suspicions that this was perpetrated by Muslim extremists, the perpetrator is believed to be a single individual. He is in custody, is an ethnic Norwegian, and as of a couple of hours ago the Guardian was preliminarily reporting that he is a member of a right wing extremist group, who is a farmer, and has a grudge against the government. If this is the case it would help to explain the choice of targets (a government building and a Labor Party conference).

"n other postings Breivik is clear of the nature of his notion of "idealism". He has described himself as a "nationalist" and written offensively of Somali immigrants with "full Norwegian passports" sitting at home on benefit and sending back money to the Islamist
Al-Shabab."
Sound familiar?

thanks, interesting, but also the first time I listed to you, from my very German linguistic perspective, you spoke as fast as the French do.
In England a newspaper vendor caused a revelation by saying this simple words: why don't you speak up, so I can understand. In France I often tell people can you speak slightly slower ...
But I will listen to this again, in the Black-forest. This is the first time for years I would appreciate a transcript not for easy cut and paste citation.

listened, not whatever I wrote.
there may be more.
Devereux just won against his most ardent competitor, Avner Falk's Magnus Opum, it feels from reading the first pages:

This is incredibly sad and horrific. It is instructive that the media and hoi polloi jumped to the knee jerk reaction that it must have been a 'Muslim fundamentalist.' They must have been excited at their fever dream prospect of a sleeper cell finally activating. The neocons must be incredibly disappointed this morning, to have such an opportunity go to waste.
Now that the suspect is found to be a White Nationalist / Christian Fundamentalist, the MSM will declare him to be a 'lone nut' and move on to greener pastures of exploitation.

Leave it to the “admirable Phil Weiss” (h/t Habakkuk) and company to give a more in-depth profile of the Norwegian terrorist.
The Mondoweiss article by Alex Kane suggests that Islamaphobia and right wing Zionism motivated the terrorist to murder the innocents. Here is an essential quote followed with a deserving link to Mondoweiss.
“An examination of Breivik's views, and his support for far-right European political movements, makes it clear that only by interrogating the nexus of Islamophobia and right-wing Zionism can one understand the political beliefs behind the terrorist attack.
Breivik is apparently an avid fan of U.S.-based anti-Muslim activists such as Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer and Daniel Pipes, and has repeatedly professed his ardent support for Israel. Breivik's political ideology is illuminated by looking at comments he posted to the right-wing site document.no, which author and journalist Doug Sanders put up.”

Preliminary indications are that this is the work of a man obsessedabout the Muslim Somali immigrants supposedly living off welfare benefits etc. If correct, it would show that the threat to our life and security comes more from white bigots and extremists rather than Muslims.
Yet doubtless the blame for this outrage will be laid by some strange convoluted logic at the door of the socialists, the Muslims, the multiculturalists, thethe gays, Obama, the treehuggers, global warming freaks, all the "usual suspects" in the Grand Megaconspiracy against Freedom and Truth and Western Civilisation and Democracy as we know it. It was not a racist Christianofascist Fundamentalist blond white nutter - Europe's Timothy McVeigh - that set off the bomb and pulled the trigger: it was the Left.

Adam,
Have you see the conspiracy threads that cite that the Oslo Police conducted a bombing exercise just 48 hours before the blasts, comparing similar actions of the Brit police just before the London Tubes bombings.
http://mobil.aftenposten.no/article.htm?articleId=3569108 The Oslo authorities 'communications failures' were cited in that they 'forgot to notify the Norwegian public'.

This tragedy teaches again the lesson that any belief system that does not place human beings at the apex of all values is a perversion, that leaves the door open for the entry of evil.

This guy apparently blogged under the pseudonym "Fjordman"
His alleged handiwork can be seen in Jihad Watch.

Mankind s inhumanity to one another when it happens, is just terrible to behold.
Posted by: J | 23 July 2011 at 07:54 PM
walrus,
The jihad watch bunch (Spencer and crew) never met a Muslim they couldn't hate, and encourage others at every turn. Spencer has had Israeli governmental support to stir up angst against Muslims in general and Palestinians in particular. see: http://www.jihadwatch.org/2005/11/my-trip-to-israel.html
There are other organizations with similar views of the Norwegian extremists, actively afoot in both Britain (the EDS) and Sweden.

That, sir, is an eloquent summary. Thank you.

FB Ali and Steve:
That position in untenable.
Mankind cannot be put into the Apex of all values; only God can serve that purpose since it is God who has endowed human life with value.
In regards to this deranged man in Norway, he is just another manifestation of the Fallen Nature of Mankind.
I do feel sorry and sad for the families of the children murdered by this deranged individual. I hope to God for Patience for them.
They had no chance - they deserved better.

Babak, that position is far less untenable than yours.
Frankly, I tire of people telling me "only God... (fill in your favorite first principle)". It's a cop-out of responsibility, of humanity growing up - even if one is impressed w/ the zeal of evangelism (the human will is indeed powerful). While I can respect the argument that evidence confirms humanity is not ready for untethered morality, I disagree.
What I've tired of is old magic. After hundreds of years of Reason (not to mention evidence, like these killings... & the burgeoning body of neuroscience), don't WE deserve better?

I would be most interested to learn of thinkers that have successfully and persuasively demonstrated a system of values that is constructed not based - ultimately - on the Revelations but on Man.
Can you recommend books, articles, or web sites please?

God, a.k.a. the "Unknown and Unknowable Powers of the Cosmos", also known as the "Cause of All Causes", also known as the "Principle that Sustains All Existence".
There are other names but this will suffice for now.

WRC,
In the Near East there are 3 names (maybe more?) for the same biblical God. The Aztecs had over 100 gods, Quetzalcoatl being the patron/creator; for the Incan's his name was Inti. The conquest wiped out those cultures (along with smallpox)
Inside the beltway there now seems to be only one, the symbol known to all: $

Homo sapiens sapiens is a sustained-release cataclysm -- a Rube Goldberg version of the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs.
We may only be a cosmic prank - one of many.
I like that possibility. It conserves cognitive AND affective resources.
