"The U.S. is focused on the nuclear issue. (Weymouth - concerning Iran)
The nuclear issue in the Middle East means Israel and then Iran.
If you become president would you keep the [peace] treaty with Israel?
The treaty is a treaty. For us, the treaty has been signed and it is for peace, but it depends also on the other side. . . . If you asked me what kind of relations between the Arab world and Israel I would like to see, I would say that the Arab position — of which Egypt is a party — rests on the Arab initiative of 2002." Lally Weymouth Interview
--------------------------
"Israel, and then Iran" could that be clearer?
"The Arab initiative of 2002." Ah, yes the Abdullah peace plan of 2002, approved at an Arab League meeting in Beirut. This "plan" is a largely meaningless statement of the possible intent of the member states to recognize Israel if and when each of these states and any other aggrieved parties settle their difference with Israel. This would include the Palestinians. The only thing that this "plan" does for Israel is to state tat there is some possibility of recognition. The "plan" resulted from Tom Friedman's publication of the "white paper" on recognition that King Abdullah used to keep in a desk drawer to exhibit to "visiting firemen."
IMO Moussa is the most likely person to win in the coming presidential election in Egypt. He is an Arab Nationalist of the old school who carefully "toed the line" under Mubarak but never like the deal with Israel or Egypt's close relations with the US.
Look for change in Egypt/Israel relations, change we can believe in. pl

Yes, Col., change that might actually reflect America's strategic interests, instead of Israel's. Some obvious questions: (1) How does America benefit from Israel having a nuclear deterrent?; (2) How does America benefit from the colonization of the West Bank or the siege of Gaza?; (3) How does America benefit from vetoing UN Resolutions about settlements which the USG simultaneously asserts are "illlegal"....?
The new Egypt will benefit America because the cost of carrying water for the Zionists will increase and we might actually start putting American interests first.
Step 1: Stop conditioning our international relations on third-party relationships with Israel. I don't give a damn whether the Turks like the Israelis. I only care if they like us.

Good post Matthew.
And then we can stop paying the Egyptians to be 'friends' with the Israeli's.
And maybe stop sending the Israeli's money someday also. They seem to be a fairly wealthy nation. But the point of that aid money is to tie us to them...

"...change we can believe in..." You left out the hope!
For me, I think I'll have more luck in my search for framboiserie's in Paris. (I got the email from Allen btw)

The United States needs to undertake an "agonizing reappraisal" of its Middle East policy in light of the regional "change" underway.
Israeli asd a "strategic ally" of the US?:
"WASHINGTON — A security company led by the former head of operations for the Israeli military made such inroads into Latin America a few years ago that U.S. diplomats saw it as a security risk and moved to thwart the company's expansion, U.S. diplomatic cables show.
The diplomats' efforts were made easier when an interpreter for the Israeli firm, Global CST, was caught peddling classified Colombian Defense Ministry documents to Marxist guerrillas seeking to topple the state, one cable said." http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2011/05/09/113919/wikileaks-us-saw-israeli-firms.html#storylink=omni_popular#ixzz1M2QcVTXR
Not news for those of us familiar with Israeli activities in Central America in the 1980s...same old, same old.

Israeli's operate world wide and have taken full advantage of Globalization and its interstitial seems. The underpinning of this effort is Israeli reliance on dual citizenship for as many of its citizens as possible. Every country allowing Israeli dual citizenship is complicit in Israeli ops that are outside the law of that nation.
