Some of the readers of your website might not know that they can be eligible to receive $500 per month if their military service was extended by a "stop-loss"
order.
Public Law 111-32, section 310, set up a fund to pay members "of the Armed Forces, including members of the reserve components, and former and retired members under the jurisdiction of the Secretary who, at any time during the period beginning on September 11, 2001, and ending on September 30, 2009, served on active duty while the members' enlistment or obligated period of service was extended, or whose eligibility for retirement was suspended, ... commonly referred to as a "stop-loss"
authority ...."
"(e) If an eligible member, retired member, or former member described in subsection (a) dies before the payment required by this section is made, the Secretary concerned shall make the payment in accordance with section 2771 of title 10, United states Code." In other words, the surviving beneficiary of a service member might also be able to receive the payments.
The deadline to get the application and claim form in is October 21, 2010. If not turned in on time, the money will not be paid and this legal right to get it will be lost.
It is discussed here--

The application form is here--

If a service member voluntarily re-enlisted or extended his service and received a bonus for the re-enlistment or extension, then he might not be eligible for the stop-loss pay.

Thanks for the posting. I'll pass this along to the veterans group at work in addition to my contacts outside.
