Will,

It does appear to some that Israel is a failed state and a rogue state.

First you demonstrate your power. Then the new faces may be inclined to be receptive. If they are not, there are many things we can do to turn the screws until they comply with our requirements.

As I have argued before demonstrating power means exercising it. Not just rhetoric as usual. The time for idle rhetorical threats has passed. It is time for action to bring Israel to heel.

At home, this means breaking the grip of the Zionist Lobby. You put the AIPAC people, Nozette, etal. in jail for a long time for espionage if they have violated our laws. You require AIPAC and all similar pro-Israel organizations to register as a foreign agent of the Israeli government and so forth.

You raise the issue of prosecution of pro-Israel American individual and group activity under the Logan Act if there are violations of this act. You find other US laws which have been broken and prosecute, convict, and imprison the guilty for long term sentences/hard time.

You take measures as Ike did with respect to funding, weapons, tax breaks on Israel Bonds, and the like.

At the same time, you reverse the decision to place Hamas and Hizbullah into the "terrorist" category. They used to be considered "resistance movements" and still are by a number of countries. As such they have standing under international law. International law permits resistance movements under occupation and so on. And you "engage them" and start talking to them directly. That should get some attention from the Zionists.

There are many things which can be done.

Will anything be done? We have the next three years of the Obama Admin to see.

Pat,

the typepad is a little hard to follow today. the response I just sent above should have be to you not to Will.

I agree, we need to show whomever that WE are in charge. But to do this, I think we have to move beyond rhetoric.

I am encouraged (I think) by the newspaper reporting of the visit and the cold reception Bibi got, by Gen. Petraeus' remarks, by Sec. Gates remarks, by Hillary's remarks, by our President's reported actions.

But IMO we need to press ahead and undertake some real concrete actions on top of these apparently significant atmospherics.

Is this possible? Yes our President and Commander in Chief has the power.

Will it happen? Who knows, one can hope.

Cliff

technically he didn't show him the door but asked him to stick around and come up with something constructive, but in your incisive way i see now that you cut to the chase & summed it up in a big picture kind of way.

Of course, after three years of law school, it's hard to get rid of some habits.

My first degree was in physics, my second was in electrical engineering. one of the habits i learned in physics was to always concentrate on the big picture and make sure the ball park number & estimate were right before getting involved in finessing the details as engineers are wont to do. i used to pride myself on that.

No. I am with you, brother, we shall see. pl

I think everybody, even the people who admire him, has underestimated Obama. There's a significant difference between a man who runs from a fight and a man who backs down from a fight. Obama is one and not the other.

Beyond that, he is a gentleman, and his goal is not the humiliation of his enemies, but to achieve his ends, and his preference is to do so in the manner that causes least dismay to everyone, including his enemies.

My prediction is that he will get pretty much everything that he wants. We are going to see a demonstration of the invincibility of soft power as applied by the most powerful man in the world.

Hello,

You might find interesting McChrystal's astounding admission on the front page of they NYT.

Quote:
"We have shot an amazing number of people, but to my knowledge, none has ever proven to be a threat,” said Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal"

Bad.
