interesting about the pic of the slug british comedian Sasha Baron Cohen who is posing as the character Borat. looks like the pic was taken at or near universal studios in Orlando, as the young lady on Cohen's right is an interviewer for universal studios wrestling show tna wrestling that takes place each week in the Orlando universal studios.
it is sad when characters like Cohen denigrate and defame others and try to portray his mental sickness as comedy, when in fact it has nothing to do with comedy, but abusing others to make a buck. the sooner that Cohen is deported back to the U.K. from where he came, the better for our nation.
Sasha Baron Cohen is taking advantage of both the American habit of kindness to strangers and horror of voicing the taboo. He is making some Americans cruelly laugh like drains at their countrymen and even themselves.
It's a low game; crude, mechanical and safe. His characters lack the psychological subtlety and sad depth of Steve Coogan for instance.
He is however a very clever young man and will clown better one day when he has found the nerve to forsake racist cartoons and play it closer to the bone.
RE Borat
In today's Financial Times is a criticism of Borat. Apparently film was made in Rumania, not Kazakhstan. Vilage peasants were paid from 5 to 20 Euro for making themselves idiots.
Occasionally Borat speaks Slavic language and one would expect it should be Russian, as Kazakhstan was once part of Russia, but it is not Russian but heavily accented Polish. In conclusion I have an impression that issue of anti-Semitism is main objective of this film. Please notice, all negative characters are either anti-Semitic, racist or homophobic. It tells you, if you are anti-Semitic you are equal to and look like morons from " Rumanian Kazakhstan".
he exposes people's racism while disguised as a racist characature? i don't get it.
i'm supposed to feel like his brand of racism is somehow less revolting than that of innocent racist americans (whom he tricks and who aren't making millions of dollars off of their racism)?
that's on top of the fact that he is probably an outright israeli agent involved in a psy-ops campaign to discredit kazakhstan in the eyes of the international investment community. think about it.
An absolutely fantastic review. Comedy reflects national ethos or pathos. It can serve as a snapshot. I dunno' why those Sherman Kent people don't look at the arts to determine subtextual intent. Maybe they do. May chime in later, time permitting. But, no doubt, this review is outta' the park.

Babek,
His success is a product of the plutocratic media and does not reflect me.

Looks like offensive satire still works with some folks -- although constantly outdone by reality since Kissinger won the Peace Prize.
Isn't Pam Anderson a Canuck? Hot in 1987 but now a total train wreck.
