Wonderful, Col.
Why did the Union Army have "Zouves"? Why did they discontinue them?

In the mid-19th century the "fashion" followed was french. these were copied from the french forces in N. Africa. the Regular army did not want any Zouave units after the war. the Zouave units were all "volunteer" units. pl

Col Lang - Mr Stress asked me to forward the following to you:
I am going to ask the Col. some questions re Sharpsburg which is a great read,
My humble opinion is that if Gen. Lee with his badly undermanned army would have been facing Gen. G. H. Thomas and the Army of the Cumberland at Sharpsburg, would his men be trying to swim the Potomac? That is a little tease.
The Deveroux men were they real or fictional?
If they were real were they related to Major J. Deveroux who commanded the USMC defense battalion at Wake Island
I think Maj.Gen. Deveroux lived in Va.after he retired
You know my extreme interest in history
Thanks, Mr Stress (Bill Miller)

Mr. stress can write me directly on the blog. If Uncle Bob had faced his fellow Virginian, George Thomas at Sharpsburg the war probably would have ended that day. McClellan did not commit the entire Sixth US Army Corps to the fight although they were waiting behind the center of his line. IMO Thomas would not have failed in that way. The Devereux clan? (note spelling) They are my creation, but utterly representative of a number of banking families in Alexandria at the time. I am pleased to know that the question was necessary. pl
