Very nice, thank you so much for posting. I've always loved Andreas Scholl's singing, I'm not well informed on American folk songs so this came as a (very) new pleasure to me.

On a wider point there's a wealth of excellent music on youtube (and on vimeo too).

Am I allowed to plug?

I've been writing about choral music on another site for a while, they suffered technical problems while moving servers. "Fortunately I keep my feathers numbered for just such an emergency" and the singularly unpleasant experience of seeing all that work vanish spurred me to stop procrastinating and finish setting up my own site dedicated to choral music. Which you can find here:

I write about and post links to choral music performances on youtube and vimeo. Occasionally (very rarely it can get expensive very quickly) I'll host a performance on my own server.

The music I post about runs from late medieval up to very modern, there's also some popular and crossover choral music. For example one of Libera's soloists giving a ravishing performance of "Where'er you walk" from Semele.

Some of the choirs and performers are very well known others deserve to be far better known than they are.

At present the postings are a mix of backups and new postings.

You're very welcome to pop over and take a look and have a listen. I'd very much welcome suggestions about American choirs - I know of the "biggies" and a few whose singing deserves more recognition but in general amn't as well-informed about the American choral scene as I'd like to be.

markfromireland,

I'm quite familiar with your music (& other) posts on that site that had the server switch losses- you are absolutely welcome to plug saturdaychorale.com here. I've been to your site several times & highly recommend doing the same to any & all TA/SST music aficionados.

If you peruse "Music" in the Categories column to the right, you'll see that TA has been quite music friendly over the years. Should the urge ever hit you to do a guest post on that subject, let me know.

markfromireland

I've seen and heard and enjoyed several of the music posts here here and would definitely describe here as a music friendly site :-)

Thank you for that invitation which I will at some point in the not too distant future take you up on - it'd be both a privilege and an honour.

We Irish are a hospitable lot, I hope you'll consider accepting a reciprocal invitation.

Glad to hear you'd consider guest posting at TA. I'd love to do the same on your blog, thanks so much for asking- perhaps we can do a "post exchange" of some sort in the future.

My in-depth knowledge of U.S. choirs/chorale groups is not extensive, but I do know quality when I hear it: locally, the Los Angeles Master Chorale (touted in adverts as "The Voice Of Disney Concert Hall") & the Los Angeles Gay Men's Chorus are top notch. Have attended several of their wonderful concerts here.

In that case let's definitely do that - the email address I've given for here will reach me. Or if you leave a comment over at Saturday Chorale with an email address that I can reach you at and I'll get in touch.
