Maureen, thanks for sending me this post's link. I did wonder how these precious Egyptian sites were faring. The dig fire still does burn when I read reports like this. All Angels midden dig still awaits, dear old friend.

From Huffington Post February 7 comes this-

An earlier version of this Archaeology Magazine contribution by Mike Elkin stated that Miriam Seco is currently excavating at Thutmose III's temple in Luxor. A different excavation at Luxor is now taking place.

All,

Archaeology Magazine will no doubt update its website further as they confirm more info on the condition of the Egypt Museum, other museums (Coptic, etc.), & sites throughout the country re: current status/any measures that were taken to protect them. For those interested, I notice the 2/18/11 Daily News column in AM has an article on possible misappropriation of both artifacts from & property in Carthage that has come to light since the uprising in Tunisia.

Seattle Johnny,

You link is particularly disconcerting in reporting that these "looters" obviously came with a "grab list" of valuable items, soon to be (if not already) sold on the antiquities black market.

Maureen, thank you for sending me your post. I just wanted to add another good source for archaeological news from the Middle East and North Africa, the Archaeology page at Global Arab Network.
