Maureen,
Thanks for the story.
Have a Merry Christmas!

There's so much more to Runyon than Guys 'n Dolls. Thanks for forwarding the link Maureen. Happy Holidays.

Thanks for the story, and thanks for sharing.

And I'll empathise trans-atlantically by trying out that hot Tom an Jerry. A drink that has been popular in America for about a century until the prohibition cannot possibly be a bad thing. I am firm believer in the theory that local cuisine and beverages (or the sore lack thereof) offer insights about a country.

Merry Christmas everybody.

Panaman

If you make Tom and Jerrys with eggnog instead of eggs you can avoid the raw eggs some people dont want. Just as tasty and as a bartender all through my early 20's I speak from experience. Merry Christmas from Trestles Cove.

Shirley Bolton

My daughter Rose was asking when she came home for Thanksgiving break about some theatrical terms and "Runyonesque" did get mentioned, Maureen. I have forwarded her the link to this story. Robert laughed out loud while he was reading Dancing Dan last night. Now he wants to make some Tom and Jerry for our Christmas party. Merry Christmas.

I had never read any Damon Runyon before and enjoyed this story immensely.
So....any holiday music recommendations for Christmas 2010, Maureen?

Maureen Lang

Mark Gaughan, Dave W., confused ponderer, Panaman, & Shirley Bolton,

Wonderful to have all of your comments here-so many seem to be trying Tom & Jerrys for the holidays, I may have to chime in with that myself.

Craig V.,

For a couple of music recommendations, how about the ones mentioned by Dancing Dan's narrator?

Happy Holidays to all!

A really enjoyable Christmas read, thanks for posting it. Merry Christmas and Happy 2011 from the McKay family to you and your brother, Maureen.

Charles I

Thanks Maureen. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Like Neil Young sings "its old but its good". I wonder whether there will be such wits in the paperless future.

Having had enough as I put it, will somebody kindly raise a Tom and Jerry in honour of any worthy comes to mind - a drinking Chris Hitchens occurs - in my stead?

I'd be most grateful, and I like that humbling feeling.

Cheers
