One of my Fathers last wishes was that he be remembered as a soldier.

The Twisted Genius

What an amazing piece! I was not at all familiar with the background of Oliver Wendell Holmes. (My ignorance constantly astounds me.) That Teddy Roosevelt was also impressed and moved by there words speaks well for TR. One of first things I did upon settling in Stafford, Virginia was to familiarize myself with the events and terrain of the battle of Fredericksburg. The thought that a future Supreme Court Justice crossed the Rappahannock and made the ill-fated approach to the sunken road fills me with awe and humility.
