I take it as a given that the Iraq and Afghanistan adventures will end in the not too distant future. Financial starvation of the US Government in the context of a declining economy and federal deficits, the intractability of these multi=player civil wars, and American inability to engage with cultures markedly different from our own, all these things will bring our overseas engagements to an end or nearly to an end.
At the same time, the political pressures brought on within the US by immigration (legal or not) and drug smuggling across the US border with Mexico are growing steadily.
Someone here suggested the application of the COIN doctrine in Mexico. COIN is armed nation building. Do we want to do that? pl
