I am heartened by the news that President Obama is still considering a policy of minimalist counter-terrorism engagement in Afghanistan rather than full blown COIN with all its manifestations of nation creation and vast expense.
At the same time I am waiting for some indication of the seriousness of the US/Syrian talks.
That being the case I declare an open thread. pl
